Homework and instructions for class on November 5th (and a little beyond)

Homework Due November 5th: Read and comment on your classmates’ blogs. Comment on at least one post on each group member’s blog by Sunday. Then, respond to your classmates’ comments on your own blog by Tuesday. Then go back to your groups’ blogs and post once more in response to their responses to your comments by Thursday.

Also, write a 3+ page draft of the blog analysis for peer review.

Blog Analysis
• What did reading and critically examining blogs teach you about writing?
• What are the advantages and disadvantages of composing a blog that consists
of multiple genres?
• How reliable are blogs as sources of information?
• How do blogs fit in with the idea of entering academic discourse?
• What are the effective and non-effective parts of the specific blog you chose to read, participate in, analyze, or create? How do those specifics relate to the general purposes of blogs?
• How do questions of privacy enter into the discussion of blogs as a genre of writing?
• How do blogs compare to other genres of writing, such as newspapers, magazines, researched essays, or autobiographical essays, for instance?

In other words, you are examining blogs as pieces of composition. It is very important to include some outside quotes and support from the article by Burnstein. This will require a works cited page. Also, “A” papers will include a bit of outside research about blogs that you have done on your own. 3-4 sources would be right around the minimum.

Rough draft due for peer review on November 5th.

Revised draft and final version of the blog are due on November 12th. We will not have class that evening, but you need to submit your revised draft to me by email. I will also post information about the final portfolio, which you need to read. Then, you will respond to a prompt I provide on the discussion board on Bb and to two other classmates. I will give more detailed instructions next week in person, by email, and on Blackboard.
