Homework: Revise your analysis and post it to the discussion board on Blackboard by the beginning of class on the 12th.
Semester (up to this point) reflection: 500-700 words posted on another forum in Bb. Respond to at least 2 classmates’ reflections (about 200-300 words each). Your attendance will depend on your participation. I will email further, more specific instructions along with some preliminary information about the final portfolio.

This blog will serve as the unit instructions for the 4th unit of English 101: Investigating a problem and finding a solution. After creating a blog that presents a problem and a solution, you will write a 3-5 page reflective essay about how composing on the blog changed your ideas about genre, writing, and composition in general.

Homework and instructions for class on November 5th (and a little beyond)
Homework Due November 5th: Read and comment on your classmates’ blogs. Comment on at least one post on each group member’s blog by Sunday. Then, respond to your classmates’ comments on your own blog by Tuesday. Then go back to your groups’ blogs and post once more in response to their responses to your comments by Thursday.
Also, write a 3+ page draft of the blog analysis for peer review.
Blog Analysis
• What did reading and critically examining blogs teach you about writing?
• What are the advantages and disadvantages of composing a blog that consists
of multiple genres?
• How reliable are blogs as sources of information?
• How do blogs fit in with the idea of entering academic discourse?
• What are the effective and non-effective parts of the specific blog you chose to read, participate in, analyze, or create? How do those specifics relate to the general purposes of blogs?
• How do questions of privacy enter into the discussion of blogs as a genre of writing?
• How do blogs compare to other genres of writing, such as newspapers, magazines, researched essays, or autobiographical essays, for instance?
In other words, you are examining blogs as pieces of composition. It is very important to include some outside quotes and support from the article by Burnstein. This will require a works cited page. Also, “A” papers will include a bit of outside research about blogs that you have done on your own. 3-4 sources would be right around the minimum.
Rough draft due for peer review on November 5th.
Revised draft and final version of the blog are due on November 12th. We will not have class that evening, but you need to submit your revised draft to me by email. I will also post information about the final portfolio, which you need to read. Then, you will respond to a prompt I provide on the discussion board on Bb and to two other classmates. I will give more detailed instructions next week in person, by email, and on Blackboard.

Homework for October 29th
Homework: Do some research about the problem you are going to address. Write 3 200-300 word blog posts that discuss a)a more complicated statement of the problem and a call for ideas from your readers b)some possible solutions and the positives and negatives of those possible solutions c) A discussion of your vision for the solution to the problem. These posts should include references to outside sources that your readers could access in order to get more information.
By the end of class on the 29th, your blog should be up and running and ready for your classmates to view it over the course of the week after the 29th.
You could also write a fourth post if you find another interesting idea related to your topic that you would like to bring into the discussion. Print out all 3 blog posts and bring them to class for peer review. You will need 3 copies of each.
Also bring a digital copy of each so that you can revise them in class following the peer review and post them to your blogs. You will also need to bring any other items, like photos, videos, survey questions, etc. that could become part of your blog. We will do extensive blog-building on the 29th.
The three blog posts count as exploration #4. In order to get credit for exploration #4, you must have them ready for peer review on the 29th. The revised versions of the posts will count toward you overall grade for the project.

Introduction to the blog project: It takes some planning!
Hello everyone,
This is a blog I just created this morning about the project we are embarking on for the final unit of English 101. However, I have been planning it in my head over the past couple of months. After you have created this project and written the reflection essay based on the experience of creating and maintaining a blog, the only thing left to do is focus on revisions for the final portfolio.
I like to do this project right before the final portfolio because it is a change of pace from a lot of the other things we've been doing. This will be a real hands-on type of project, and hopefully you will all embrace the challenge of incorporating multiple genres of composition into your blog. While the tone of your blog may be less formal than a researched essay, for example, I would like to see a level of thought that is deeper than any of your previous projects.
This depth of thought will not just manifest itself in your writing, but also in your careful choices of visual content on the blog, which will include the following:
Blogs can be a powerful tool for presenting information to me, your class, your family, and the general public. While I will not require you to show the blog to more than me and the class, I think it is a more worthwhile project if you can get some freinds and family to join in on the online discussions.
That's it for now! I'll post again soon!

This depth of thought will not just manifest itself in your writing, but also in your careful choices of visual content on the blog, which will include the following:
- a video (either original or borrowed from Youtube or some other website with video)
- at least 5 original photos that somehow help shed light on your topic and enhance the visual presentation of the blog
- 3 major posts (200-300 words) related the community or personal problem you wish to offer a solution to. These posts are the bulk of the writing in this project, so they must be excellent, crafted pieces of writing. The first one should introduce the problem. The other two should dig into the problem and how you intend to solve the problem
- a link to a webiste, article, or source outside your blog that gives the reader further information about the problem and solution you are discussing
- a creative title related to your topic
- a creative url address
- a short mission statement (about 50-75 words) just below your title, which will indicate tot he reader the purpose of your blog
- 3 Poll questions that will serve as a survey for collecting data on your blog
- You will also need to comment on the blogs of 3 classmates.
- Then, after they have commented on yours, you will respond to their comments, thus creating a conversation online
